Retreat Details
TMC is one of the most important experiences that we offer in our music program. Through fun and intensive music making activites, and group experiences students are able to not only improve musicianship, but also develop confidence, postive relationships with their peers, and leave feeling a deeper sense of engagement with the program and school. Many students reflect on their experience at TMC as transformational, and one of the most influential experiences of their time in high school.
This over night camp is hosted at the beautiful Camp Kintail facility. Camp Kintail is located on lake Huron near the city of Goderich. Cabins are created with input from students, and lead by members of our Music Leadership group. Douglas Friesen is a music educator and Instructional Leader at the Toronto District School Board, and teaches courses at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education and at Wilfrid Laurier University. In these areas and in workshops with students, educators and musicians he has searched out and explored democratic and creative teaching models where teacher and tradition are guests, not starting points. He’s been an assistant to composer R. Murray Schafer and leads improvisation, soundscape and creativity workshops for educators internationally. As a professional musician Doug has played with Dave Bidini (Rheostatics), John K Samson (Weakerthans) and Ron Sexsmith.
